50 Years of the Knight Owls
In 1965 the first snowmobile club in Lincoln County, the Sno Bugs, was formed in Tomahawk. Seven years later the club split and the Knight Owl Club was born. The first meeting was held on November 13, 1972, 26 members attended the meeting, adopting the original by-laws and incorporating the club. Now we have over 200+ members. The club meets August through April on the first Monday of each month at the groomer shed. At the end of each season all landowners are given a gift certificate to use at any of our business members.
The Club celebrated our 50th anniversary on October 29, 2022 National Snowmobile Day, with a dinner and get together at our new groomer shed which had just been completed this summer.
Our trail system includes corridors 15-16-17-19 running from the City of Tomahawk East to the Harrison Hill area, South to Gleason and Irma, and West to Spirit Falls. A total of 120 miles of trails, all groomed with one Prinoth groomer and a 9’6” drag.
The Club is proud to have had a Miss Snowflake and an AWSC Groomer of the Year/ International Groomer of the Year. In 1989 the Club was awarded first place in the Badger State Games Torch Ride. We have continued to be involved in the Badger State Games for the past four years helping to coordinate the torch’s journey starting in Wausau on Thursday to Eagle River on Friday night of the World Championship Snowmobile Races to light the cauldron. In 2019 the Tomahawk area was designated as a Snowmobile Friendly Community by the AWSC which continues to this day.
Congratulations Knight Owls…here’s to 50 more years!
